About Us

Albania School “Pjetër Budi” Liverpool was founded on the 1st of June 2024 with one clear purpose: to give the Albanian children born and raised in Liverpool and the surrounding areas the opportunity to learn their mother tongue language and connect with their cultural roots.

What began as a community initiative has grown into a vibrant Saturday school where dedicated teachers, passionate volunteers, and supportive parents work hand in hand. Our school is run entirely as a non-profit organisation. Every effort, every hour, and every lesson is delivered with love for our heritage and commitment to our children’s future.

Our Goals

  • To provide high-quality, consistent teaching that inspires children to love learning Albanian.

  • To strengthen cultural identity and connection within the diaspora.

  • To build a strong parent–teacher partnership that supports children’s progress.

  • To expand and bring Albanian heritage education to more families across the Northwest.

Who is Pjetër Budi?

Pjetër Budi (1566–1622) was one of the most important figures of Albanian culture and literature of the 17th century. He was a Catholic cleric and writer, known as one of the earliest authors to write in the Albanian language. Budi worked to strengthen the Catholic Church among Albanians and to defend national identity during a difficult period under Ottoman rule.

His works include liturgical and moral texts such as “Christian Doctrine,” which aimed at the religious and linguistic education of the Albanian people. In his writings, he conveyed patriotic and spiritual messages, encouraging the preservation of Albanian culture and language. He lost his life in a tragic manner in the Drin River while attempting to organise resistance against the Ottomans.
