Pranvera Laci
Founder & Director of Albania School “Pjetër Budi” Liverpool
Our Founder & Director
Pranvera founded the Albanian School “Pjeter Budi” Liverpool out of a deep passion for education, heritage, and community. With a background in teaching in motherland Albania and volunteering experiences and training in UK schools, she has dedicated her life to supporting children’s learning.
After moving to Liverpool in 2011, Pranvera saw a growing need for a space where Albanian children could learn their language, connect with their culture, and feel proud of their identity. Motivated purely by love for the community — not personal gain — she launched the school on June 1st, of June 2024, as a non-profit initiative created for the children.
Her vision is simple yet powerful:
To give every Albanian child in Liverpool and the surrounding area the opportunity to learn their mother tongue and grow up confident in who they are and where they come from.
Pranvera continues to lead the school with dedication, collaborating closely with parents, teachers, and volunteers. Her commitment has helped build a strong, supportive community where children look forward to coming every Saturday and families feel welcomed and valued.

Who is Pjetër Budi?
Pjetër Budi (1566–1622) was one of the most important figures of Albanian culture and literature of the 17th century. He was a Catholic cleric and writer, known as one of the earliest authors to write in the Albanian language. Budi worked to strengthen the Catholic Church among Albanians and to defend national identity during a difficult period under Ottoman rule.
His works include liturgical and moral texts such as “Christian Doctrine,” which aimed at the religious and linguistic education of the Albanian people. In his writings, he conveyed patriotic and spiritual messages, encouraging the preservation of Albanian culture and language. He lost his life in a tragic manner in the Drin River while attempting to organise resistance against the Ottomans.
